President and Principal Engineer: Dr. Joseph McGowan
Dr. McGowan is a licensed Professional Engineer with more than 35 years in the practice of Engineering. Following an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from the United States Naval Academy, he served as a Naval Officer in the United States Submarine Force and as a Senior Startup Engineer for the General Electric Company. Upon obtaining the Doctorate in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania, he served on the faculty of the School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania and was funded as a Principal Investigator by the National Institutes of Health. In parallel he served in the United States Naval Reserve as Commanding Officer of the senior detachment within the Office of Naval Research. He transitioned to the faculty of the United States Naval Academy and was appointed Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering while also serving as Captain, United States Navy. Following retirement from Naval Service he was employed by Exponent Failure Analysis. He founded McGowan Associates, Inc. in 2011 and has since served as President and Principal Engineer. Dr. McGowan is presently appointed as Visiting Research Professor in Drexel University’s School of Bioengineering, was previously appointed as Adjunct Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Temple University, and has served as an occasional Lecturer at Princeton University. Dr. McGowan has authored more than 100 scientific publications and has been listed in both Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare. He has been inducted into the National Engineering Honor Society (Tau Beta Pi) and the National Physics Honor Society (Sigma Pi Sigma). As a Naval Officer he was decorated three times with the Meritorious Service Medal and twice with the Navy Commendation medal.
